Ranking our Summer Signings to date

It's been a while since we did a blog, but we will look at how our signings from the Summer window have fared in the first half of the season rating out of 10

Cyriel Dessers - 5/10

Coming in as our prized striking recruit from Rangers as a replacement for Foti, Dessers has only made 8 appearances in all competitions. Scoring in his first start in the Greek Cup vs Kallithea & consequently scoring in the derby, Dessers sustained an injury which left him out for 2 months. Since coming back he scored against Volos in the league & then got called up to the African Cup of Nations. This has been a frustrating signing as we know his strength & quality but has seen very little field time. At the time of this blog, he has sustained an injury with his home nation requiring an MRI.

Vincent Taborda 5/10

Taborda came with big hype & big money move from Boca Juniors after his loan stint with Platense in Argentina. Under 3 different coaches, Taborda has not seen many minutes & it has been reported that he needs to work & train harder. The #10 role came with hype as equal to well loved Ezequiel Gonzalez 7 appearances with only 2 starts coming from the Greek Cup. He has 1 goal to his name with the flair we expect to not have been show.

Pedro Chirivella 7.5/10

The former Nantes captain joined the Greens with major fanfare & has not really put a wrong foot. Similar play style to former fan favorite Ruben Perez, Chirivella has played almost every game & is the link between midfield & defence, where the ball & direction of play starts with him. He does not have any goal contributions to his name, however he has been one of the few positives we have seen so far this season without having a stable midfield partner

Georgios Kyriakopoulos - 7/10

A much needed filling at the spot, Kyriakopoulos was signed early in the window to be the starting left back. Reliable & slotting in as the primary left back, Kyriakopoulos started strong & to date only has had 1 poor game against Feyenoord. He has been credited with 1 vital goal vs Samsunspor & 1 assist & has been injured for over a month with bone bruising. His injury has left a void in defence which has been proven difficult to replace.

Milos Pantovic 7/10

Signed at the end of the window Milos Pantovic comes as a young forward that is a bit raw, but has a lot of potential to succeed. Pantovic can be deployed anywhere up front and has 2 goals & 2 assists including a clever finish against PAOK. Still has a lot to learn & refine his skills. Could be a decent pickup.

Ahmed Touba 8/10

The tall-lanky centre back, arrived with low expectation as fans deemed him too slow & a classic "Papatzim" signing. However, he has won over the fans very quickly with his height, passing game & passion he plays with, establishing himself as a starting centre back over captain Ingasson with his consistently good performances. He was very unfortunate to miss out on a African Cup of Nations call up for Algeria, but that has been our gain.

Anass Zaroury 7/10

The on-loan Moroccan winger from Lens found a difficult life to start until his start vs Young Boys where he had scored a hat trick. Giving rock & diamond performances, with an injured Pellistri & an out of form Djuricic to compete with, Zaroury has made the position his own winning the job since Benitez has taken control. He has been deployed also as a left wing back which has done a satisfactory job. He is credit with 4 goals & 3 assists whilst still adjusting to life in Athens.

Davide Calabria 7.5/10

The high profile Italian international & former AC Milan captain has been good when fit taking over the role from Vagiannidis. He has formed good chemistry with Tete on the right hand side. He has put in consistently good performances, but questions arise regarding his fitness. Calabria is credited with 2 goals & 1 assist.

Renato Sanches 2/10

The high profile midfielder came towards the end of the window on loan from PSG & off a Club World Cup campaign where he scored a goal in PSG's winning run. With Maksimovic gone, the need to sign a midfielder was high & Panathinaikos took a gamble & secured the services of Sanches which was known to be high risk. That gamble has not paid off. With 1 assist to his name, when he has seen the pitch he has been good. The issue is, he has barely played due to his long history of injuries. He leaves a massive void in the midfield with himself & the departure of Maksimovic leaving issues in that midfield.

Alban Lafont 7/10

Lafont 2 seasons ago was one of the best goalkeepers in France. Last season, it was reported his performances dropped & had a massive falling out with his club Nantes. Panathinaikos picked him up on loan to replace the departing Lodygin. Lafont looked shaky in early performances whilst competing with Dragowski for the #1 keeper spot & both were rotated. Lafont seemed to have won the #1 spot & performances were impressing winning over the fans. He had switched allegiance to Ivory Coast & was immediately called up to African Cup on Nations since. He is credited with 4 clean sheets in all comps.

Kostantinos Kotsaris 7.5/10

The former Panathinaikos youth product returned home to help with the quota of club/home grown players & as a 3rd choice goalkeeper. Kotsaris has managed to start games due to Lafont's departure for the African Cup & Dragowski falling out with the club, Kotsaris was putting in solid performances with not at fault of the goals conceded. However, his big game was against PAOK at Toumba where if it weren't for him, 2-0 would've looked more like 6-0 in a game where he is the only player that can hold his head up high
